The portrait, integrated into Corneliu Baba's skillful realistic complex, represents one of the last ways we can offer interwar Romania its painter. The classicizing style with which Baba approached the painting of the human figure is defined by the highly personal manner in which the artist individualized himself and modified painting in the second half of the 20th century. Repeatedly taught especially in the period immediately following World War II, through frequent social portraits, Baba managed to "collect" an illustrious repertoire for the occasions of portraying the human face. Whether he painted idyllic, generalized figures that populated the masses of people found in his works, or family members and close friends, the painting never omitted the detail that truly gives meaning to the work. Spiritual deepening is the tool through which the artist can truly endow a portrait with the significance it needs. A simple photographic appearance could not be compatible with Baba's character, and the painted faces continuously demonstrate that the model was subject to the master's careful analysis. And in this genre of painting, even more so in Baba's case, two coherent parts can be identified that make up the artistic tableau. The social portrait and the intimate portrait are the two entities that transform the entire genre into a bifocal complex, into a logical arrangement of attribution
