The House at Nicorești fits into one of the recurring themes of Gheorghe Petrașcu's work: the rural house, seen not only as an element of the landscape but as a space of memory, belonging, and personal connection to the place. Nicorești holds a special place in the artist's biography, being linked to his family properties and the periods when the painter returned here to work. Repeating the motif allows Petrașcu to explore different relationships between volume, light, color, and pictorial matter, transforming the modest construction into a monumental and symbolic presence. There are several variations of the theme; some depict a massive rural house with a broad roof and, in the foreground, elements of the farmstead, or a simple house with few surrounding elements: "House," "Houses in the Countryside," or "House in Nicorești," which are part of the Bucharest Municipality Museum, the Romanian Academy, or the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu. A suggestive detail is the porch, a feature specific to Romanian traditional architecture, which brings the image closer to the universe of the village and the typology of old houses encountered in Romanian painting from the late 19th to early 20th century. The porch should not be viewed
