Research information

Pe verso, etichetă de participare la expoziţia personală de la Galeria Mony Calatchi, Saint Germain, Paris, 1971, poziţia 46.

The imaginary background that Perahim conceived as early as his youth, starting from Braun's influence, coagulated and eventually became concrete in the typical surrealist painting area. Influenced in various ages by historical and social existence, starting from the left-wing political affinities in the interwar period up to the African influence in the final decades of the 20th century, Perahim stressed the importance of the human on every step of his evolution, whether by dissolving the world, or by reinterpreting the figurative in pursuit of a genuine essence. One of the favourite areas of the surrealist Perahim was around the metaphysical concept, perhaps the most eligible element of philosophy in the artistic discourse of all surrealists. His return to surrealism, after his social realist period (1945-1969), opened an exceptional imaginary universe. His pictorial tools return: the oneiric world, renouncing the recognisable and the human, discovering another figurative language - all of these defined the creation of Perahim post-1969, the last stage of his troubled career.
