Klein's choice of an involved art came from his own biography, but also from the context of the fourth and fifth decades of the 20th century. Baia Mare, a working-class city, could easily offer him typical subjects for a left-wing art. He worked a lot being inspired by plain people, from peasants to labourers, without hesitating to show feelings of sadness, often enhancing typically Expressionist atmospheres. He often worked on monumental paintings, impressive with their clever placing of figures in the foreground, most images being provided by a gloomy universe. The life and tragedy of the simple man, which he experienced first-hand after 1940, led to an extremely rough last cycle of paintings, dedicated to a troubled existence.
