Research information

A similar work is published in "The Mușat Collection - A spiritual geography of Transylvanian glass icons", by Ana Dumitran, Bucharest, 2018, fig. 64, p. 64.

In the central plane, the Virgin Mary is observed looking with bitterness at the cause of her sorrow: Jesus crucified on the cross, of small dimensions. She is wearing a richly decorated black maphorion, a sign of the mourning in her soul. Next to the cross of the Crucifixion, the symbol of the Church and two archangels appear on the clouds. The earth is represented by bands of horizontally colored unconventional color. The icon is dated and signed in the lower right corner in white "Pavel zu 1884". (M.B.) State of preservation: it presents two cracks in the lower left.
