Sleeve vase decorated with the mythical Zhong Kui character, a figure present in Chinese and Japanese mythology alike. This entity is traditionally cherished as a conqueror of phantoms and evil entities, and is capable of controlling 80,000 demons at once. His image is often times painted on the gates of houses or on valuable goods, embodying the figure of a spiritual protector.
