Qi Baishi (1 January 1864-16 September 1957) was a Chinese painter known particularly for his watercolour works and his ludic and vivid style. He was influenced by artists from the Ming Dynasty (Zhu Da). The subject of his works are varied, and the most frequently present are: animals, birds, plants and vegetables, of really small sizes. His admiration and respect for nature is reflected in his very energetic and powerful brushes resulting in works overflowing with vitality. He was the Honorific Chairman of the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Chairman of the China Artists Association in 1953, where he was active until his final years.
