The French Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was an engineer and geographer who began his public career as a naval engineer. Passionate about travel and geography, he dedicated his work to the latter. He became one of the supporters of the French Enlightenment movement, which increased his popularity in the intellectual circles of the time. Engraving on copper, manually coloured after imprinting.
