Nicolae Tonitza knew Dr. Mihail Zambra since 1913, when he was introduced by his friend, painter Zamphiropol-Dall, brother-in-law of the doctor. Through Zambra, Tonitza met Ștefan Luchian in 1913, during the period when the doctor was trying to cure Luchian, who was ill.
