The artwork of Dimitar Kazakov was the object of great interest from the public and collectors in Bulgaria and abroad during his lifetime. His exhibitions were presented in Paris, Tokyo, New York, etc. And today he is one of the most sought after and collected authors Many studies, biographical books and films have been devoted to his work. Dimitar Kazakov is a colorful person. He calls himself a "gladiator with a sharp sword". His nickname "Nero" comes from his student years at the Academy of Arts, where he graduated with a degree in Graphics, although he is known as a painter. Throughout his life, the artist remained deeply connected to the land and our traditional culture. He creates a magical world in which memories of his native village Tsarski Izvor, myths and legends from national folklore, projections of ancient cultures and civilizations are intertwined. Without hiding his affinity for the Orthodox icon painting tradition, he was inspired by Etruscan and Crytomycenaean art. In the lithograph "By the Spring" all these components are combined in an abstract-figurative imagery in which conventionally constructed figures float in a weightless surreal space. Dimitar Kazakov is not tempted by the three-dimensional construction of the form. Every centimeter of the graphic sheet is populated with characters and symbols - apples, maidens, birds, snakes, fountains in unusual perspectives, viewed from an unusual angle, located in "inverted space" according to the author. In the composition, female faces placed in a spherical composition peer out, looking in amazement at us or at the sky. The woman - mother, creator, inspirer, wild person is the main character in the paintings. Themes of love, earth, nature and its wonders take center stage. According to the author, art is a universe, a complex world and a continuous source of life. Dimitar Kazakov was born on June 22, 1933 in the village of Tsarski Izvor, Velikoturnovo. In 1951, he entered the first graduating class of the Art School in Sofia. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts, majoring in "Graphics" under Prof. Evtim Tomov in 1965. From 1965 to 1972, he lived and worked in Pazardzhik, where he was assigned. In 1967 he received the Award of the Union of Bulgarian Artists for graphics. Since 1968, he has been a regular member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. In 1972, he left Pazardzhik and settled in the village of Bozhurishte near Sofia together with his family. He worked as a full-time artist at the Military Division in Bozhurishte until 1977. Since 1978, he has been working as a freelancer. He is often treated in hospitals and sanatoriums because of asthma. He died on January 16, 1992 at his home in Bozhurishte. During 1965-1990 Dimitar Kazakov regularly participated with paintings, watercolors and drawings in General Art Exhibitions organized in Sofia, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Ankara, Washington, Paris, Dusseldorf, Tokyo, New York, Madrid, Basel and others. He exhibited in over 40 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad. (S.N.)
