After finishing his studies at the School of Fine Arts in the country, he decided to go to Paris in 1904 with a scholarship for more painting research and study. Following the quick assimilation of the Paris spirit, the works created in this period are signed in the French manner, as his name provided a similar tone, thus becoming Emilien Lazaresco. In Paris he studied art techniques by sitting in the studios of Antoine Auguste Ernest Hébert, Léon Bonnat and Luc-Oliver Merson, the latter writing that the painter showed real progress in his studies. The romantic spirit that Paris had instilled in him can be found in various nuances in his works, and in 1908 he started having his first exhibitions at the French Artists' Society Salon and the Autumn Salon. The paintings made in various techniques, oil, watercolour, pastel, pencil or charcoal, depict scenes of urban life, landscapes with the gardens on the banks of the Seine, cabaret night scenes, intimate anecdotes or feelings. Peinture de genre was his strong point in which he excelled as an artist of the 20th century, but the national spirit was another source of inspiration in his process of creation, and he managed to convey the heroism of Romanian soldiers in his history compositions.
