The trowel is a mason's tool that serves to straighten stone, symbolises benevolence and the desire to help those in need. Thus it expresses active goodness, charity, but also the will of the human being. The fraternal love that creates cohesion between the stones is like cement - soft and capable of taking any shape, then resistant without being rigid, when it binds the parts inside the building. The trowel serves to mix it until the perfect amalgam is obtained and any excess is eliminated - to spread illuminated blessing and generous tolerance. For this reason, it is the tool of choice for the mason-builder in his constant and positive action of an active edifier.
