The painting was created during Šefer's abandonment of tonal colorism and adaptation to the coloristic range of the Istrian climate. Since 1953, he mostly resided and created in Rovinj, where he also established his own gallery with a substantial fund of his paintings inspired by the natural beauty of the Istrian peninsula, from the Lim canal and fields of crljenica to the Motovun forest and dense architecture of towns in the interior.
