The sculptor and painter Ivan Mirković was an artist of a long creative period and a respected member of the Split artistic circle who gained popularity at the local level with a series of oil paintings of fishing themes and especially brilliant caricatures with which he often exhibited at Salon Galić, an important and very active private gallery in Split during the first half of the 20th century. He graduated in sculpture at the Prague Academy in 1923, where he also frequented the studio of Vlaho Bukovac, which resulted in him nurturing his painting creativity equally as his sculptural throughout his entire professional career. In 1980, the city of Split awarded him the "Life Achievement Award" for his exceptional 60-year contribution to the cultural environment of Split. The Art Gallery in Split, which holds more than 20 of the artist's works (oil paintings, drawings, watercolour caricatures and sculptures) in its fund, held an extensive retrospective exhibition "Ivan Mirković / 1917. - 1974." in 2005, which also featured works from private collections, including the painting Fisherman at Lunch II presented here, dated between 1936 and 1950.
