Description
The Persian tradition considered hunting to be an essential part of a prince's education. The Persian king would go hunting "many times a month" and would take along a large number of young trainees, as well as other companions. The hunters carried bows and arrows, two javelins, and a short sword. The state, regarding hunting as education, provided "the best training for war," covering all expenses for these hunting groups from the treasury. The king was "not only the leader in war," but also the leader of the hunt.
