Description

On the gilded background of the icon, bordered by a stepped frame, painted on the edge in red, is depicted, sitting on a throne decorated with precious stones, Saint Nicholas, who holds the open Gospel with his left hand and blesses with the right. Over the blue chiton, he wears a pink felon, and over it a golden omophor, decorated with red and black crosses. In the upper part of the icon, of small size, the intercessors are depicted in bust: Jesus Christ with the Gospel and the Mother of God with the omophor (alluding to the Synod of Nicea in the year 325). The name of Saint Nicholas is written in Slavic characters. The features of the face are characteristic of the post-Brâncovenesc painting style from Wallachia.
