German guard halberd, ceremonial, 17th century
Description
The blade of this ceremonial weapon is made from a single piece, equipped with two flat and wide blades in a crescent shape. The surface is engraved with rondels within a stylized architectural frame. The base combines a pyramid trunk and a sphere, and at the lower part it extends with very long thin blades that secure attachment to a lance. Such pieces were used during official ceremonies and were employed by the respective monarch's guards.
