Description
Artemis is the goddess of the hunt in Greek mythology, one of the twelve Olympian gods. She was one of the oldest and most revered deities of Ancient Greece. During the classical period of Greek mythology, Artemis was described as the daughter of Zeus and the mortal Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis was also depicted as the goddess of the forests, childbirth, virginity, fertility, and hunting, often invoked with a bow and arrows. The piece was published by Vasile Canarache, Masks and Tanagra figurines from the workshops at Callatis, Constanța Museum of Archaeology 1969, p. 54, no. 17.
