Elena Văcărescu (1864-1947, Paris) was a writer settled in France. She had an affair with Prince Ferdinand. During World War I, Elena Văcărescu campaigned for the Great Union. In 1919 she was appointed general secretary of the Romanian Association near the League of Nations by King Ferdinand I. She won the award of the French Academy twice. She had a rich political and literary activity in Paris. For her merits, she received the Order of the Legion of Honour awarded by the French Government. She was chosen an honorary member of the Romanian Academy (1925), and was the first woman in Romania to be honoured with this title.
