Founded in 1804 by Antoine-Vital Cardeilhac, the company specialized in Rococo-style silverware and quickly gained international recognition, winning medals at fairs between 1823 and 1834. In 1851, his son, Armand-Edouard, took over and continued the tradition, winning awards at major exhibitions and being named Maître Orfèvre by Napoleon III. Armand-Edouard retired in 1885, and his nephew, Ernest, introduced Art Nouveau designs. The company continued to be awarded, including at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. Christofle acquired the company in 1951. Today, Cardeilhac's works are displayed in renowned museums such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
