We could call LDB another Frida Kahlo, and this not because of the infirmity that has created health problems throughout her entire life, but because of her volcanic, unusual personality, with sharp humour and a pubescent joviality. She was a distinctive figure, displaying a youthful trend and a face that was sometimes cheerful and sometimes grumpy. She had her first solo exhibition in 1926 when she showed flowers and still lifes. All the displayed pieces were built in the good tradition of the Post-Impressionism she had studied. These were quasi-monumental, heavy constructions, with sturdy, popular vessels, with backdrops of crinkled velvets and Romanian carpets, woven as to create areas of light and shady depressions. This setting was in keeping with the way the artist related to the artists she had seen in Paris during her years of study and travel. An approach to Othon Friezs from the period when she sought to render the subject as synthetically as possible, using strong chromatic contrasts and rapid drawing, can be seen in still lifes with flowers. After 1933, the hospitalization in the sanatorium of Techirghiol where Max Blecher was also suffering and the closeness to him and to the Romanian avant-garde will lead LDB, as the researcher Dr L. Tudorachi would observe, towards a naive 'surrealist' style.
