Known as the most representative Romanian artist of our classical realistic painting, Theodor Aman and his creative work are mainly under the sign of the time when the painter lived and the changes that occurred, in both the political and the cultural fields, inspired by the ideas of the revolution of 1848. The influence of the thinking of 1848 has left a mark on artists such as Rosenthal, Negulici, Iscovescu, Lecca (who have expressed their love for the people through portrait paintings of revolutionary leaders or paintings of historical scenes) whose respectful follower was no other than Theodor Aman, who joined them through historical themes. The painter's historicist preoccupations and tendencies, specific to the early stages of his creation, will be contrasted, in the period immediately after the 70s – which coincides with the period of artistic maturity - through the renewing vision, free of certain rigidities. Even though his favourite theme is the landscape, open air scenes, in the garden, in the park, Theodor Aman does not become a plein air artist in the true sense of the word, but his brighter palette, a greater freedom of his brushstrokes contribute to his making airier compositions, where the atmosphere is rather suggested by the vibrations of light. Such works show views of Bucharest's parks or the artist's garden, picturesque aspects of the places visited by the artist. Their small size allowed the artist to devote himself to detail with particular attention, and a common feature of most landscapes is the almost permanent presence of man, which, in his conception, came to complete the decor of everyday life. A small oil on wood painting, "A Walk in the Park" depicts the perspective of a road in the middle of nature, where the silhouettes of two elegant figures belonging to the aristocracy can be seen near the horizon. Realistic in interpretation, full of social meanings, in Aman’s creation the landscape assumes the role of a chronicle of era in which he lived, pictures full of truth, in which today we see authentic period documents.
