Ex Jean Vinchon, Paris, 24 November 1969, lot 126 Tetradrachm issued during the reign of Lysimachus, a general of Alexander the Great, Satrap (321-306 BCE) and King of Thrace (306-281 BCE), shows on the obverse the deified head of Alexander turning right, with the horns of Ammon, and on the reverse, the representation of the goddess Athena Nikephoros sitting on a throne facing left and the legend to the left and right: ΛYΣIMAXOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ (LISIMACOU BASILEOS), along with the mint monogram from Magnesia. Thrace, the mythological birthplace of Eurydice and Orpheus, is an area bounded to the west by the Strymon River, to the east by the Euxene River, to the south by the Hellespont and to the north by the Haimes. Three centuries before Christ, Lysimachus, the king of Thrace, sent a powerful army into the Dacian territories north of the Danube under the leadership of Dromihete, being defeated and his son captured.
