Obverse: Bust of Emperor Trajan, laureate; Legend: IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P. Reverse: Vesta seated to the left, holding palladium and scepter; Legend: COS V P P SPQR OPTIMO PRINC. Mint area: Roman Empire, predominantly Rome. Circulation area: Roman Empire, from Spain to India and from Germany to Egypt. Possible discovery location: Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, West Asia, North Africa. State of preservation: mediocre. The presence of the goddess Vesta on the reverse of the coin, as a symbol of family and home, indicates the importance that Trajan attributed to the sacred fire in the temple of the Vestal Virgins. Thus, Emperor Trajan ensured both the safety of the empire, but also the material and spiritual well-being in the domestic space of the inhabitants of Rome, as well as the Romanized provinces of the empire. The DAC inscription on the obverse refers to the title Dacicus Maximus that Trajan received after returning from the expedition in 101-102 in the kingdom of Dacia, when he successfully besieged the capital Sarmizegetusa and forced Decebalus to surrender.
