Emperor Caracalla, actually known as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, was an intriguing figure in the history of the Roman Empire. He is often remembered for two major actions during his brief but tumultuous reign. Firstly, he issued the edict known as the Antonine Constitution, which granted Roman citizenship to all free inhabitants of the empire, which had profound implications for the social and fiscal structure of the Roman state. This measure was significant in integrating and unifying Roman society, consolidating the empire during a time of rapid growth and change. Secondly, Caracalla was known for his military campaigns and the reshaping of the Roman army. This had a considerable impact on the security of the empire and its military prestige. However, his rule was also marked by political instability and acts of violence, including the assassination of his own brother, Geta, whom he expunged from the official imperial nomenclature.
