Maria Baiulescu (1860, Braşov - 1941, Braşov), writer, translator, was an important representative of the feminist movement in Transylvania. She was involved in the national fight of the Romanians in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, she initiated the General Union of Romanian Women in Transylvania and Hungary. During the years of the Unification War she took refuge in Iaşi, where she took part in the activities of the Orthodox Society, under whose patronage she founded the Society for the Protection of War Orphans and the Association for the Civil and Political Emancipation of Romanian Women (1917). Returning to Braşov, in 1918, she led the Reunion of Romanian Women and the Union of Romanian Women, she worked in social assistance and charity, and was deeply involved in the Society for the Protection of War Orphans, Red Cross, Prophylaxis of Tuberculosis, Disabled of War, etc. She was awarded the "Queen Marie's Cross" medal, 1st class, and "Ferdinand I" medal.
