The two cups were commissioned in the year 1837 to the engraver and goldsmith Andrei Lalin to commemorate the military campaigns of the Tsar of Russia, Alexander I, against Emperor Napoleon I. The medals that decorate the upper part of the cups refer to: the occupation of Paris by the Russian army in 1813; the victory of the anti-Napoleonic coalition, which included Russia, in 1815 (medal made by the engraver Fiodor Tolstoi); the portrait in warrior attire of Emperor Alexander I; the official coat of arms of the Russian Empire with the motto "God is with us". Two medals are repeated on each cup, two others appear one on each cup. At the base of the cups appear the portraits of the Tsars Alexander I, Paul I, Alexander II, Nicholas I and of Empress Catherine II. The cups are made of silver-plated brass and are in a good state of preservation.
