Obverse: The Wallachian coat of arms - an eagle on a knight's helmet, to the right of the coat of arms is the P siglum; the legend + IONSRADOLVSL Reverse: The Basarabs coat of arms: a shield split into two vertical fields; three horizontal bars in the first field, the Θ siglum in the second field; the legend: + IONSRADOLVSVAIV The coin was issued during the reign of Radu I (1377–1383), the brother of the famous Vlaicu Vodă (1363–1377) and the father of the renowned Mircea the Elder. He was an ambitious and visionary ruler, the first to officially obtain and bear the title of Grand Voivode, a sign of the consolidation of sovereign authority, a title which also appears on the coins of the time issued by him. Although often overshadowed by his son's fame, Radu I played an essential role in forming the political and economic foundation of the medieval Romanian Country.

The coin was purchased from an auction house in Vienna, Austria. The owner has all acquisition documents, and copies of them, with personal details and prices erased, will be available to the buyer.
