Starting from the belief that the artist can learn in any situation, Dimitrescu uses his travels in the country and abroad as vital milestones in the search for the meaning of his creation. In compositions with characters, he focused mainly on the Romanian peasant, but his canvases are also rich in appearances of the Tatars from the Dobrogea area. The unrestricted attitude in the artist's works enhances the monumental presence of the protagonists, captured in simple and carefully calculated gestures. Dimitrescu possesses a perfect power of analysis and synthesis, so he will capture, through the lines that describe faces and silhouettes, the humanity and ethnic factor of his models. He will penetrate the subconscious of his protagonists and will undoubtedly be attracted by the exoticism and picturesque aspect of Dobrogea. In the canvases painted here, we will find especially the people gathered around the tables, in the solar atmosphere of terraces and cafes. A keen observer, the artist will be able to render, through the ports and customs of the characters, the local atmosphere. The period from 1927 to 1933 will prove to be prolific in the economy of his creation. Dimitrescu spends his time preferentially around the coast and will borrow the strong and impressive shades of Balchik for his works. The perspective that he transcribes pictorially is visibly narrow, the artist enjoying the live panoramic fullness and filling his canvases with cutouts limited to a certain subject. From Balchik come some of his most colorful compositions - "Ismail's Cafe", in which sunny strokes predominate, or "Mamut's Bakery", in which the artist relies on decorative plasticity. In portraits, however, he focuses on the individualization of the characters who pose for him. With an imposing presence, the current muse stands out through attitude and clothing. The semi-rigid posture of the body, with the right arm covering the chest and resting on the opposite shoulder, with the chin slightly raised and the eyes focused on an external focal point, indicates the protagonist's sure and detached attitude. Both the oriental carnation and the clothing details, through the richness of prints and colors, or the preciousness of the jewelry that decorates the body, immerse us in the eastern universe in which the artist penetrates. The easel will now lean on the arid ground, while his brushes will borrow from the sunny atmosphere of the place.
