Ion Țuculescu will carve his way among the distinct notes of symbolism, post-impressionism, or expressionism, and even to the folkloric or totemic stages to which he committed his creation. The investigation and the constant need to experiment will constitute the key to combining all his pursuits. Since his exhibition debut, he will be warmly greeted by one of the most representative critics of the time, George Oprescu. From the works with fruits and vegetables made in the '20s, and until the fascinating floral elegies made around the '40s, in which the inner tumult comes to the surface through a specific coloring, the technical and stylistic evolution of the artist is remarkable. Ion Țuculescu will therefore stand out as an interpreter of nature since his debut. This will allow him to familiarize himself with the basics of painting and the assimilation and perfection of technique. Revealing the special attention of the scholar, the artist will no longer be concerned with the faithful rendering of reality, but rather with the emotion imprinted on the subject. His plastic space, infinite and with unusual materializations, is furrowed by an artificial luminosity and a brutal chromatic motif. His ornamental chords are embedded in touches of black, a shade that he assimilates from Petrașcu's works. He keeps recognizable fragments of the real space from which he draws inspiration, but modifies them according to his own stimuli. From the rapeseed fields or the Romanian village panoramas up to the Venetian canals, stone bridges, and colourful Italian buildings, Ion Țuculescu takes us, with the help of his works, on a welcome journey around the world. Whether working in oil, or transposing the urban landscape into watercolor, the artist aims to transform the drawing board into a visual diary of his own life. From the '40s date, several landscapes that the artist included in exhibitions such as "Artistic Youth", "Official Salon" or "Moon of Bucharest". The landscape will undoubtedly become one of his favorite motifs. From landscapes in Greece or Mangalia, to views of Balcic and country roads, Țuculescu is always surprising with his ability to transform the fruits of his wanderings into pictorial subjects.
