Muhammad Ali, born as Cassius Marcellus Clay, entered sports history, being an inspiration for artists, film screenwriters, children or subsequent generations of athletes. In 1999, he was named "Athlete of the Century" by the American magazine Sports Illustrated. He changed his name after 1961, when he converted to Islam (initially to the Nation of Islam movement, then to Sunnism, later becoming a follower of Sheikh Hisham Kabbani). He began training at the age of 12, and at 22 years old, in 1964, he won for the first time the world title in the heavyweight category in a match with Sonny Liston. He refused to enlist and fight in the American army for religious reasons, but the authorities arrested him and he lost his boxing license for almost four years. This turbulent period is also reflected in the 2013 documentary, "The Trials of Muhammad Ali".
