Michel Romania Catalogue no. 4, imperforate, cancelled. Rare piece of philatelic collection, the 108 parale Auroch's Head was issued on the same date as the 54 parale stamp, on 15 July 1858, and put into circulation one week later, on 22 July 1858. These stamps are extremely rare, with an issue of just 6,016, out of which only 2,574 were sold. Auroch's Heads are an important step towards the independence and autonomy of Moldavia to the Ottoman Empire, which did not allow the Romanian Countries any sort of institutional or economic autonomy at the time, such as their own coin, insignia or flag. This is also proof of the accelerated modernisation of the Romanian Principalities after the mid-19th century. This stamp reproduced the Moldavian coat of arms, with the auroch's head inscribed in a circle, followed by a post horn at the base, a five-pointed star and the "porto scrisori" caption written in Cyrillic letters. Each stamp included its nominal value, 27, 54, 81 or 108 parale. The stamps were printed using the tête-bêche technique and they copied the Austrian model, using steel mould casts. The stamp comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by Fritz Heimbüchler and a certificate of authenticity issued by the Royal Philatelic Society London in 1938.
