The item is complete. Volume I begins with a portrait engraving of Jan Sobieski (created by French artist Garand) + XII + 440 pages. Volume II has 386 pages, while Volume III has 403 pages, ending with an interesting catalog of the publishers and collaborators of Duchesne. The binding of the three volumes is uniform, made of cardboard boards wrapped in marbled brown leather. All three volumes are decorated on the spine with gilded typographic motifs, framing the title "Histoire de J. Sobieski". All three volumes have damaged spines. The French scholar Gabriel-François Coyer lived between 1707 and 1782. He underwent humanistic and theological studies, eventually joining the Jesuit order. He is the author of a significant number of diverse writings, especially philosophical, theological, literary, memoirist, books that have been translated into major European languages, published in numerous editions. One of the books that was widely received at the time was this book, "The History of Jan Sobieski", more precisely of Jan III Sobieski, 1674-1696, occasioned by the author's presence in the entourage of the Polish prince, the last great king of the Kingdom of Poland. The work represents a writing deeply imbued with the Enlightenment spirit of the epoch, of real use for the integration of Polish history and culture within the frame of European spirituality. The third volume also addresses Sobieski's campaigns in Cantemir's Moldova with the aim of forming a common army and an offensive against the Turks. The comments on Moldova, Wallachia and their rulers, discussed in a Southeast European context, provide information of scientific interest for Romanian history. This French-language edition includes three volumes, published under the care of Duchesne of Paris, with the following title page: "HISTOIRE DE JEAN SOBIESKI, ROI DE POLOGNE. Par M. L’ABBE COYER. TOME PREMIER. A VARSOVIAE, Et se trouve a Paris, chez DUCHESNE, Libraire, rue S. Jaques, au-dessons de la Fontaine S. Benoît, au Temple du Goût. M.DCC.LXI”.
