The issued Tetradrachm during the reign of Lysimach, general of Alexander the Great, satrap (321-306 B.C.) and king of Thrace (306-281 B.C.), presents on the obverse the deified head of Alexander to the right, with the horns of Amun, and on the reverse, a representation of the goddess Athena Nikephoros seated on a throne to the left and the legend to the left and right: ΛYΣIMAXOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ (LISIMACOU BASILEOS), with the mint monogram of Magnesia. Thrace, the mythological birthplace of Eurydice and Orpheus, is an area bounded to the West by the River Strymon, to the East by the River Euxene, by Helespont to the South and by Haimes to the North. Three centuries before Christ, Lisimah, king of Thrace, sent a strong army to the northern Danube lands under Dromichaetes, was defeated and his son was captured.
