Identification elements of iconographic and stylistic order: The royal doors are made up of two panels, with a stopper in the middle and the upper part ending in a trefoil arch. They do not have carved decoration, being entirely painted with the dedicated scene of the Annunciation. Archangel Gabriel is painted on the left panel, and the Virgin Mary on the right one. The scene unfolds against a background of traditional architectures, painted in gray, olive, and light red, suggesting the buildings of the city of Nazareth. Above a small veil, Prophets David and Solomon appear. On the left panel, Archangel Gabriel is depicted standing, large-sized, in semi-profile, dressed in a long red tunic, embroidered with gold. With his right hand, he blesses the Virgin Mary, and in his left hand, he holds a flower. On the opposite side, the Virgin Mary, standing in front of a banquet, receives the news; with her right hand she makes the accepting gesture, and in her left hand she holds a skein of wool. She is dressed in a blue dress and a red-cherry maphorion, which covers her head and shoulders, falling towards the back of the dress. Both have golden halos, decorated by wheel incision. Identification elements of technical order: Carved wood, planed, partially gilded, decoration by incision, tempera painting on wood. Conclusions: The royal doors were part of the ensemble of a Brancovan iconostasis. The accuracy of the composition and drawing, the rich and subtle chromatic range, as well as the faces of the characters made in the style of Brancovan painting, place this work, signed by Kiril Zugrav, among the noteworthy achievements of this genre (A.D).
