The monetary issues attributed to Saint Stephen the Great's reign are groschen and half groschen in the Ottoman asper system, a monetary system that continued the monetary reform of Petru Aron (1455 - 1457). The coins come in two types, superior title silver, of a relatively restricted number, mainly used to pay the military service of the boyars and mercenaries, and less for commercial exchanges, where payment in coins issued by stronger neighboring states was preferred.
