Antoine Vitré (1595-1674) was an important French publisher who was particularly noted for the use of non-Latin characters (Arabic or Oriental, for example) in the contents of the works he curated. He first published this work in 1645, which brought together texts from the Syriac Old Testament, the Book of Ruth published by Abraham Ecchellensis and other patristic texts. The present two volumes, in folio format, are part of a later edition printed in Antwerp in 1717 by the booksellers Plantin and Moret. The title page is decorated with a cartouche depicting, in the form of an engraving, Moses pointing to the tablets of laws. The covers are made of leather-covered cardboard, with the spine divided into seven cartouche designs. The volumes, in a good state of preservation, show signs of age. On the last page of the second volume is a contemporary pencil drawing. Also in this volume there are two smaller pages, handwritten in French at the time, which contain a list of the main religious holidays of the year.
