Together with the Bucharest Bible from 1688 and “Cazania lui Varlaam" (“Homiliary of Varlaam") of 1643, “Îndreptarea Legii" (“Law Enforcement") is one of the most valuable monuments of Romanian Humanism, being the most important code of laws in the Middle Ages in Wallachia. It is, according to the predoslovia, the Great Pravila of the Land, with "all the archpriest and royal judgment", intended for both clergy and laity, i.e. the people and their guides. The writing was translated from the Greek language, with the dedication, the hard work and the expense of Metropolitan Ștefan of Wallachia, in the printing house of Ruler Matei Basarab. On the verso of the title page begins the preface of monk Daniil Panoneanul, on the verso of page (2) is the coat of arms of the Metropolitanate of Wallachia, followed by verses, then the preface to the book by Metropolitan Ștefan and the contents of the codex. This book is also a monument of Romanian graphic art, with its neat two-colour printing, hundreds of ornate initials, lavish frontispieces and large original engravings depicting synods, the coat of arms of Wallachia or the Rightful Judgement. Because of the constant, long use in the Romanian society, only a small number of copies are preserved today, most of them damaged and incomplete. Almost all of the country's "Pravila" contain use or ownership inscriptions of those in charge of enforcing the laws. Folio format, contains 24 unnumbered pages, 700 pages numbered in Cyrillic characters. Original binding made of leather, glued on wooden boards, cover one decorated with the scene of the Resurrection of Jesus and in the corners the four Evangelists, John, Mark, Luke and Matthew. The spine is divided into five registers. It features one of the two locks. The volume retains intense traces of use in worship.
