The Romanian national rugby team, nicknamed "The Oaks", is Romania's representative in international rugby competitions. The first international match of the Romanian national team was in 1919, against the U.S.A. Romania's team was also among the top three ranked for the 1924 Olympic Games. Intensive participation in international matches between the '60s - '80s, led the Romanian team to develop its own style of play, which has become a subject of study for foreign teams. After a deterioration of the game status after the 1989 Revolution, after 2000, the Oaks team has experienced an intense revitalization and its re-inclusion in the major international teams.
