The medal commemorates Lascăr Catargiu, a prominent personality of domestic politics from the 19th century, and of the Conservative Party. This was made by the engraver Mauriciu Carniol, his father, Moise Carniol, as an acclaimed engraver and medal maker. The obverse features the left-facing effigy of the politician, and his years of life, while the reverse depicts his statue surrounded by laurels and the year the medal was made.
