Franz Christoph von Khevenhüller (1588-1650) was an Austrian historian and diplomat of noble origin, appointed by Emperor Ferdinand II of Habsburg to be his ambassador in Spain. The family laboured in the interest of the empire for a long time, and its men held important diplomatic and military positions. This work is his main historical work and it was published posthumously between 1721 and 1726 in 12 volumed, bound in 9 books, as presented here. The author monitored the reign of Emperor Ferdinand II of Habsburg, which he describes in detail, based on a research of the imperial archives, and he also had diplomatic state correspondence, which he could access due to his influential position. The work is also encomiastic regarding the emperor, his protector. The copies include a printed period ex libris, glued inside the main cover. The volume covers are made of cardboard, wrapped in calfskin. The general state of preservation is good.
