When Ludwig Moser died in 1916, his sons Gustav, Richard and Leo became the owners of the company. At that time, Leo Moser became the technical and artistic director. In his attempt to make changes in marketing and production strategies, the company contracted the young architect Rudolf Wels to design and modernize the administrative buildings. As a result of this relationship, Wels was offered the opportunity to design glass items for the company. Even though Moser had worked with external designers (we remember Josef Hoffmann), Rudolf Wels became the first external artist to work directly for the company. In 1922, Wels designed a series of hyalite black glass items with oroplastic décor, which was based on a retrospective view of the orientalist themes from the end of the 19th century - (dragons, cranes, flying herons). This vase is part of the aforementioned series, being richly decorated around the entire body with dragons.
