The scene unfolds on a white background, within an architectural frame. The Infant stands on a bundle of hay in front of the Virgin Mary, who holds his hand. Behind the cradle, an angel is kneeling, along with the three magi, one of whom is knelt. Behind the Virgin Mary, dressed in a red mantle and golden tunic, stands Saint Joseph. Centrally, a large star lowers its rays between the heads of two horses (in fact, the ox and the donkey). (A.D.)
