Wei dynasty was founded in the 4th century by the nomadic Tabgach tribes, extraordinary military leaders. They invaded Northern China and conquered the region of Shanxi, establishing their capital in Pingcheng (present-day Datong), taking the ancient name of Wei. They shortly conquered the territories in North-Eastern China, and by 439 they had united the entire North of China, stabilising the economy of the empire. As Buddhists, hey had a cultural contribution to Buddhist art, as well as in building fortifications. Wei dynasty ended in 535. This terracotta soldier is a symbol of military power, representative for this ruling dynasty.
