Carefully crafted, this buckle provides a rare incursion into ancient Chinese society. This type of item was characteristic of nobility at the time, and thus became a symbol of social statute of the bearer and not only. Decorated with turquoise, Carnelian, Lapis Lazuli and a rare type of grey jadeite, the buckle is an alternative historical source, telling us about the the beliefs and opinions of those times, through the agency of its rich symbolism. All symbols on this item were meant to grant its bearer good luck, prosperity and a long life.
