The Poet (Horvath Heinrich)
Opis
Hans Eder, one of the most representative expressionist painters from Transylvania, a significant figure in the Brasov painting scene and beyond, was among the members of the evening meetings that took place in the Krone hotel restaurant in Brasov in the mid-last century. His presence at these regular meetings for the intellectual guild of Brasov expanded his knowledge horizon and also offered new painting motifs. We will therefore find a gallery of portraits dedicated to the personalities who attended these famous cultural evenings: architect Albert Schuller, doctor Wilhelm Depner, painter Fritz Kimm, lawyer Hermann Frätschkes or poet Heinrich Horvath. The last two can be seen in a double portrait, probably witnessing the meetings at the Krone Hotel. If his connection with lawyer Hermann Frätschkes is known through Idei Frätschkes, the daughter of a pastor from Widenbach, the sister of the aforementioned lawyer and also the wife of Hans Eder, about the poet Heinrich Horvath, not many details remain. We find him in the portrait dating from 1942, a large-scale portrait, seated in the library, surrounded by books. So his placement in this context is not random, but is intended to reveal a psychological portrait long studied by the painter.
