Opis
Lena Constante studied applied arts at the University of Bucharest, and before the Second World War, she joined the team of her teacher, Dimitrie Gusti, founder of the most significant movement of the sociology school in Romania, to study the communities of Cornova, Drăguș and Șanț. Mircea Vulcănescu, Henri Stahl, Nicolae Argintescu-Amza, Petru Comarnescu, Xenia Costaforu, Paul Sterian, Harry Brauner, whom she would marry, were also part of the team. Thanks to her friendship with Lucrețiu Pătrășcanu's wife, she was able to contribute to the founding of the first puppet theatre in Romania, but the same friendship would also bring her a trial, being sentenced to pay for a non-existent guilt until 1962. While in prison, she "composes", keeping it in memory, a play in verse, presented on Radio Romania Tineret only after four decades: "Zâmbete în floare" ("Smiles in bloom"), 1992. The two monographic books, "Evadarea tăcută" ("The Silent Escape") and "Evadarea imposibilă" ("The Impossible Escape") are reference elements when studying the communist torture system in Romania.
