The fan, made of silk on brass structure and spokes, includes the joint monograms of King Charles I and of Queen Elizabeth, located on the lower right-hand side. The fan was probably painted by the queen, known for her talent, both literary, and artistic. She also painted other pieces, such as calendars or book illustrations. The scene decorating the centre of the piece is inspired from nature, in the form of a pair of finches flying among cornflowers. The silk base has minor defects owing to the passage of time, and one of the brass spokes is unloosened on the end towards the handle. The fan has a period frame made of wood, with decorative elements made of plaster with patina.
