The interior painting practiced by Ipolit Strâmbu in the last 20 years of his career represented one of the most opportune changes in aesthetic and thematic terms. The new orientation brought to the fore intimate scenes from urban life, focusing particularly on women's lives, where the influences of Munich genre painting can be observed. Starting from 1911, alongside the rural theme, which had been fervently approached until then, the artist will pay increased attention to intimate scenes. We often identify in his repertoire feminine characters from the petty bourgeoisie, caught in various postures, in the company of friends or in solitude, caught in solar chromatic effects or in diffuse lights of lampshades. In these paintings, among which stand out works like "Woman sewing" (1911), "Profile, lamp effect" (1911), "Lamp effect" (1912), "Lamp effect" (1913), "At tea" (1914), "In the light of the lamp" (1915) - here listing those from the beginning of the stage - we see the bourgeois woman in the pleasant moments of rest, spending her time alone or in the company of others, in various activities. The artist tries to contrast the feeling of monotony through the diversity of the characters' attitudes, the originality of the poses, with the aim of creating variety of the moment captured. The classic theme coordinating the current composition is found in Strâmbu's work especially in the last years of his career, a stage in which he is attracted by the playful component.
