Carol Hübner's vocational activity will be prominent in his life mainly through the maternal line, as his aunts, Selma and Helene, will also work in the musical field; while his uncles Ernst and Emil Honigberger will also be scholars in the field of music and painting. In 1906, Carol Hübner settles in Brașov with his family, therefore in the epicenter of the German cultural life of the early 20th century. He begins to show his first artistic inclinations in high school, being encouraged by his drawing teacher. In 1926 he will go to Berlin, at the invitation of his aunt Selma. He arrived in Germany in the full swing of expressionism and the Neue Sachlichkeit. Upon his return to Romania, he will continue his studies in Bucharest, where, with the help of a scholarship, the activity of a decorator painter and an illustrator, he will manage to adjust his financial situation. Inspired by daily reality, Hübner constructs his work from portraits, landscapes or still lifes with flowers. He will return to Brașov in 1932, where in 1933 he will open his first personal exhibition. The echoes of his approach will be felt through rave reviews in publications such as Kronstadter Zeitung. In the artist's portrait gallery, female characters are particularly visible. From young women arranged in traditional costumes, to nude studies and elegant ladies, Hübner's protagonists dazzle with verve and monumentality. With a distinguished outfit and carefully combed hair, the protagonist of this work directs her gaze towards an external focal point, undisclosed, while her right hand reveals her binoculars and implicitly her occupations. Behind her we distinguish the imposing church and the vast expanse of brick roofs. Beyond the city depicted in orange shades, the mountain landscape opens up, thus suggesting the placement of the model in a setting familiar to the artist: the city of Brașov. The work was presented to the public in 1933, during the personal exhibition that took place at the Reduta Center.
